09/07/2005 Entry: "2005 NEWAL Picnic"

The NEWAL Picnic was a great time again this year. There were about 200 people there including retires and Associate Office members. It was a little warm but there were a lot of cold beverages on hand to combat the heat. The kids seemed to enjoy the rides as always and surprisingly the lines seemed shorter this year. The slippery slide was filled up with all postal employees and their kids for several times down. The food was very good again this year with a great assortment of just about any thing you could want.

Shirley Schuessler and Jessica Fezatte did an excellent job setting everything up and finding the American-made door prizes. The door prize for members who turned in their VOE survey was awarded, $100.00 to the lucky recipient who was looking out for their job. Thanks to Lucy Hauser and her daughter Julie for keeping track of the people and the ride tickets. Thanks also to George Dowling for taking the 35mm pictures, they were put in the breakroom for members to take. A Thank You also to Jeff Hackl and Bryce Thomas for taking digital pictures of the event for the website, NEWAL.ORG and the Bay Breeze. Jeff did a great job of putting them all together so that they can be downloaded fast and easy.

To this picnic-goer the best part was when Heather Hpfensperger's little girl decided she was a little warm and wanted to cool off with the water from the coolers. She was dunking her head in the buckets of soda and ice. I think we all would like to have done that after a few hours. All in all, it was great to see people outside of work enjoying themselves.
